Tornado flips trailer at Lake Bronson, caught on camera

Early July brought severe weather to Kittson County. Among the thunderstorms were a few funnel clouds and a brief tornado touchdown.
On Monday, July 6, there was a report of a funnel cloud near Lancaster. The National Weather Service confirmed a funnel cloud south of Karlstad around 4:16 p.m. the same day.
The big event was a touchdown event at Lake Bronson, caught on camera by a local.
Romyn Gudmundson III was driving to town when the funnel cloud formed above town. He caught it on video as he drove to the Farmers Union Oil Co. Cenex station.
“Never before in my life have I seen a tornado or a funnel cloud or anything like that, so I thought, ‘What on earth is going on up there?’” Gudmundson said. “I saw this little white cloud spinning around and it’s growing.”
He was wondering what might have happened until he got closer to the Cenex station and saw a trailer tipped over.
“I thought he took the corner too fast and maybe went in the ditch on his own. But I got into the station here and looked at the cameras. Sure enough, the wind was just there at the perfect time,” he said.
Gudmundson shared the video of the tornado and the camera footage from the Cenex station, which caught the attention of area news outlets and social media.
The National Weather Service confirmed the touchdown as a tornado around 2:45 p.m. on July 6. The storm report states a “brief tornado touchdown flipped over a trailer as it was pulling into a service station.”
