Shirley B. Cederholm, 90

Shirley B. Cederholm, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 15, 2025, in Elk River, Minn.
Shirley was born in her Uncle Teddy and Aunt Mamie’s home in Transcona, Manitoba, Canada, on April 23, 1935, to Alexander and Mary Protosavage. At age 15, she left her home to enroll in cosmetology courses at a beauty college in Winnipeg. She eventually went on to own and operate Shirley’s Beauty Shop in Emerson, Man.
She was united in marriage to Donald Cederholm of Hallock, Minn., on July 12, 1965. They were married in Miami, Fla. Shirley gained her U.S. citizenship in 1971 and operated Shirley’s Beauty Shop in Hallock for many years before retiring in 1990. She was actively involved at the First Presbyterian Church, Hallock Homemaker’s Club, Garden Club, Red Hats, American Legion Auxiliary and various other community activities.
They spent many winters at their home in Harlingen, Texas, where she enjoyed water aerobics, going to Bingo and trips over to Mexico and South Padre Island. They looked forward to coming back to their home in Hallock for the summer. Shirley will always be remembered for making her signature dishes of pierogies and cabbage rolls that she proudly made for all family gatherings.
Donald and Shirley eventually moved to the Elk River area in 2015 to be closer to family. They moved into Elk River Senior Living in 2018 where Shirley was known to all as the greeter to any new resident who she made feel welcome. Shirley and Donald enjoyed 56 years of marriage until Donald’s passing in 2022.
Shirley is survived by: a daughter, Wanda (Craig) Hegna of Zimmerman; a son, Wayne Cederholm of Dallas, Ga.; three granddaughters, Jennifer Hegna, Asheville, N.C., Jamie Hegna, Roseville, Minn., and Jordan Hegna of Roseville; two brothers-in-law, Harvey Cederholm and Jens Godfredsen; and a sister-in-law, Lois Cederholm; along with several nieces and nephews who always held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Donald Cederholm; her parents, Alexander and Mary Protosavage; a brother, Milton Protosavage; a sister, Marlene Godfredsen; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Cederholm; brother-in-law, Charles Cederholm; two sisters-in-law, Kaye Cederholm and Myrna Protosavage; and a niece, Joni Turner.
Shirley’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, July 14, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hallock, with visitation one hour before the service. Internment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Hallock.
