Complaints about signs for ‘no parking’ leads to removal

Once Mike Olson was sworn in as Teri Halvorson’s replacement on the Lancaster City Council, the councilors addressed regular business on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
The full council approved removing two no-parking signs from Fourth Street in front of the Stumberg residence, which the council voted to place there in 2022. Olson was mayor at the time and said the issue arose with personal vehicles parked in front of the Stumberg’s conflicted with snow removal. Another issue was people parking along that section of street was a hazard for the buses pulling out of the new bus lane at Lancaster School.
Jessica Stumberg expressed her disappointment that the council was revisiting the issue.
The most recent problem includes people parking in front of the residence and blocking the Stumberg’s driveway and mailbox. Jessica and Dan Stumberg were at the meeting and noted one of the people who did this was a sheriff’s deputy. The Stumbergs said they never asked for the signs the city put up, but did agree to a resident-only parking zone so they had enough parking for themselves and their children.
