Lancaster Fire Dept. to buy additional grass rig
By Anna Jauhola
The Lancaster Fire Department will be headed to Ortonville, Minn., to pick up a new grass rig after the city council approved its purchase during the Wednesday, April 15 regular meeting.
Keith Schmiedeberg and Chris Johnson told the council they received word a 1989 K-250 three-quarter ton truck came available with only 164,000 miles on it, new tires and a new battery.
“It has brand new tires, runs and drives. It comes with a water tank and an electric Honda pump. And it’s got some dents and scratches, and the steering has a little play it,” Schmiedeberg said. “Jade said it would take a couple hours to fix. We’ve been struggling to keep four running and we’re always down one truck.”
The asking price for the truck is $3,500. Schmiedeberg felt it’s a good deal, especially since new tires for that rig alone cost about $1,200. The truck is also gasoline instead of diesel, which is less expensive to fix should it need repairs.
The council agreed on the purchase, approving the fire department not to exceed $4,500 in the cost of the rig and the cost to get it from Ortonville.
