Hallock street project wraps up under budget

The Hallock City Council heard a wrap-up of the street project during its regular meeting on Monday, July 6. Zach Thoma, of Moore Engineering, said the final billing to Spruce Valley Corporation of $460,903.02 covered final paving, the last of the concrete work and planting grass.
“We still are holding $487,000 in retainage, so we’ll release that once everything is cleaned up, finished out,” Thoma said. “Yeah, we’re holding 10%. Honestly, we normally hold 5%, but they’ve been voluntarily putting 10% in as retainage and I haven’t been opposed to that.”
Thoma noted the whole project will be under budget by approximately $200,000.
There is still some cleanup to do, such as the lot across from the courthouse and a narrow sidewalk by the greenhouse.
Once everything is finalized, Moore Engineering and city officials will do a final walkthrough of the project to ensure everything is correct. The city has a one-year warranty on the project for any issues that arise.
