Odeen M. Anderson, 79

Odeen M. Anderson, 79, Lake Bronson, Minn.  passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, Minn. Sunday, January 17, 2016.
Odeen was born in Greenbush, Minn. to Oel and Marie (DeRaad) Anderson June 23, 1936. He grew up south of Greenbush and attended the Dock Country School until the 7th grade.  Odeen graduated from Greenbush High School in 1954 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force January 12, 1955. Upon his return home in November of 1958 he took a job with the Minnesota Rubber Company in the Twin Cities.  While at work there he attended Dunwoody Institute and earned certification as a machinist.    
On May 2, 1959, he married Dorothy Sollund at Bethany Lutheran in Greenbush.  They moved to Hallock in 1971 and Odeen drove truck for Eddie’s Bread.  In 1972 they started the Lake Bronson Community Coffee Cup Café and Bowling Alley and moved to Lake Bronson in 1973. Odeen began working as custodian and bus driver for the Karlstad School District in 1982 and retired from there in 2001.  
Odeen taught the Minnesota Fire Arm Safety Program in Kittson County for 50 years, an accomplishment he was very proud of.  He also served as a volunteer fireman in Lake Bronson for 23 years with 22 of those years as Fire Chief. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on the church council; the Lake Bronson Lions Club; Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion, Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, North American Hunting Club, Agassiz Trail Riders, the NRA and served as fire warden.
Odeen is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Wayne (Jacqueline), Karlstad, Minn. and Ward (DeAnn) Roseau, Minn.; five grandchildren, Jacob (Karlee), Kayla (Skyler) Duffy, Laura, Nicholas and Morgan; two great grandchildren, Jase and Gabriel; a sister, Marlene Johnson, Moorhead, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Curtis Johnson, Strathcona, Minn.; sister-in-law, Maxine Anderson, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Merlin; sister, Clydene; brother-in-law, Lester Johnson; as well as aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Bronson.  Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson. Visitation was held at Austin Funeral Chapel in Hallock Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Pastor Kathy Levenhagen, presided; Corienne Jacobson, organist and Galen Nordin, soloist. Special music was provided by Jacqueline, Kayla and Laura Anderson. Casket bearers were Nicholas Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Greg Quiner, Bruce Goldstrand, Jerry Bernstrom and Mark Wilwant.
Austin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
