Peter ‘Pete’ Dziengel, 89

Peter (Pete) Dziengel, 89, Kennedy, Minn., passed away at Altru Hospital,  Grand Forks, N.D., Monday, Dec. 12, 2016.  
Peter was born July 4, 1927 in Brantford, N.D., the youngest of twelve to Peter and Josephine (Siwinski) Dziengel.  As a young boy he moved with his family to Argyle, Minn. Pete grew up attending St. Rose of Lima Catholic School.
As a young teen, when his parents moved to Sauk Centre, Minn., Pete stayed in Argyle to help his brothers farm.  While working for his brother, Clem, in Kennedy, he met Lavonne Swanson and they were married in November 1951.  Together they made their home on the farm, raising two sons, Keith and Charles.  Farming was Pete’s passion. He loved planting sugar beets, wheat and barley with his John Deere equipment.  
Snowmobiling was his winter fun. He enjoyed riding his Polaris through the snow with friends and family.  A game of cards was always a good way to spend an evening. Pete was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.  
Peter was united in marriage to Gloria Flatland in July 2001.  Peter spent his retirement years living on the farm with Gloria, helping his sons in the field whenever he could until his passing.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; sons, Keith (Kim) and Charles (Mary), of Kennedy; grandchildren, Lukas (Gretchen) Dziengel, Garrett Dziengel, Kelsey Dziengel, Melanie (Matt) Johnson, Chad (fiancée Lauren) Dziengel, Paul Dziengel and Denise Dziengel; two great granddaughters, Claire and Brynn; stepsons, Jeff (Julie), Jon (Kim) and David (Kerri) Flatland; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; brother, Tom Dziengel and sister, Irene Nowacki; as well as nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lavonne; a stepson, Scott Flatland; parents; four sisters and five brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, 10:30 a.m. in  St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hallock, Minn.  Interment was in Kennedy City Cemetery. Fr. Craig Vasek, presiding; Sharlene Klegstad, organist; St. Patrick’s Choir with Pam Hunt, accompanist. Casket bearers were Peter’s grandchildren. Visitation was held at St. Patrick’s on Thursday evening, Dec. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
