Mary Elizabeth Berglee, 57

  Mary Elizabeth (Haubrich) Berglee, age 57, passed away at her home Friday, Nov. 17, 2017.
She was born in Hallock, Minn., the daughter of the late Harold and Jeanette Haubrich. She grew up in a household with her twin brother and five other brothers and sisters, along with two nephews. She graduated from Hallock High School before attending the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where she earned a degree in Psychology. After graduating from college, she worked as a program manager for the United States Air Force at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. During this time, she met and married her husband, Royal Berglee, who was attending the University of North Dakota at the time.
After working for the Air Force, Mary and her husband moved to Devils Lake, ND, where her husband became the Vocational Education Director at Little Hoop Community College at Fort Totten. Mary worked at the local Catholic church office. In 1994, Mary and her husband moved to Terre Haute, Ind., where they both attended Indiana State University. Mary earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and her husband earned a Ph.D. in Economic Geography. They moved to Mt. Pleasant, Mich., where Mary was employed as a legal court reporter and her husband taught at Central Michigan University.
In 2001, they moved to Morehead, Ky., where they made their current home. Her husband is a professor at Morehead State University. Mary volunteered and then worked for Habitat for Humanity, Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church, and the Hope Pregnancy Center. Mary was a kind and gentle person who had a tremendous capacity to care for and help others. She was a supportive and loving companion. Her kind smile and Minnesota sense of humor were always welcome. In the past year she went through treatments for cancer and had other serious health concerns. Her warm spirit, her life and her love, were a comfort for those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Royal Berglee, twin brother Michael Haubrich, brothers John L. Haubrich and Greg Haubrich, nephews John D. Haubrich, George Peterson, and Joel Haubrich, sisters Nancy Haubrich, Haley Haubrich, and Anna Haubrich, as well as many additional nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
A public memorial service celebrating and remembering Mary was held at Northcutt and Son Memorial Chapel in Morehead, Ky., Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at 3 pm.
