Sharon Lynn Vold, 81
Sharon Lynn Murphy was born to Leonard “Mike” and Ruth (Larson) Murphy on June 29, 1937, in Graceville, Minn. She was raised on the family farm in Leonardsville Township, Traverse County. Sharon attended country school in northwest Leonardsville Township, St. Mary’s Academy in Graceville, and Graceville High School, graduating with the class of 1955. Sharon then attended business school in Minneapolis and Fargo before marrying Kenny Vold in 1956 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Collis.
Sharon and Kenny farmed together, retiring from farming in 1998. Sharon also worked at Grace Home for more than thirty years, with most of those years spent in the physical therapy department. She truly loved the residents and so enjoyed hearing their stories from days gone by.
Sharon is survived by: daughter, Leigh Ann Patterson and her son, Sean of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Carla (Dan) Gary of Sioux Falls, S.D. and their children: Griffin (Laura) of Savage, Minn., Eli (Alyssa) of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mallory (Mike) Churchill of Woodbury, Minn., and Liza (Brandon) Ulmer of Gretna, Neb.; son, Jon (Linda) Vold of Hallock, Minn.; daughter, Molly (Michael) Thomas of Fargo, N.D. and their sons: Gabe and Jed; son, Joel Vold of Hallock, and his children: Mike (Breanna) Otterson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jon (Ashley) Otterson of Grafton, N.D., and Jackie (Brent) Huebner of Morris, Minn.; and daughter, Stacy (Bob) Proudfoot of Dalton, Minn., and their children: Annie, Meggie, and Gus Proudfoot; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Gail (Donald) Kehoe of Duluth, Minn.; brother, Bill (Peggy) Murphy of Buffalo, Minn.; sister-in-law, Donna Murphy of Duluth; brothers-in-law, Dick (Irene) Vold of Graceville and Karl Kieffer of Little Falls, Minn.; and uncle, Don Conroy of Wheaton, Minn.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Kenny in 2000; infant daughter, Maureen Lynn in 1964; her parents; daughter-in-law, Karen Vold; brother, Jerry Murphy; Kenny’s parents, Muriel and Hans Vold; and Kenny’s siblings: Bob Vold, Janet Kieffer, and Irvin (Dorothy) Vold.
Sharon loved children and animals and was a voracious reader. If you would like to remember her in your own, quiet way, we know it would make her happy if you think of her as you read a story to a child or show kindness to an animal.
