Beverly Hughes, 88
Beverly Hughes 88, of Hallock, Minn., passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center on Thursday morning, Jan. 3, 2019.
Beverly Wollertson was born March 19, 1930, at Erskine, Minn., to Joseph and Martha (Bensen) Wollertson. Bev attended elementary school in Shelly, Minn., through the 8th grade and attended high school in Climax, Minn., graduating in 1948. She went on to attend Concordia College from 1948 to 1949 and Moorhead State College from 1949 to 1950. Beverly graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught school in Beardsley, Minn., for one year before moving to Los Angeles, Calif., in the fall of 1951. Bev worked at a bank Los Angeles before returning to Concordia for the spring semester in 1952. She taught school in Middle River, Minn., from 1952 to 1954 and in Bemidji from 1954 to 1955.
On June 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to Thomas Hughes at the Shelly Marsh River Lutheran Church. Bev continued teaching in Greenbush and Middle River schools from 1955 through 1957. In 1968 she moved to Hallock where she and Tom made their home. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter, Jane Sobolik-Kelly (Michael); grandchildren, Stacy (Ben) Diamond, Hallock; Brett (Molly) Sobolik, Hallock and Maia (Colin) Beger, Thief River Falls, Minn.; great grandchildren, Douglas and Caroline Diamond, Nora, Blake and Josie Sobolik, and Quinn Beger; a brother, Ronny Wollertson; sisters, Ina Mae Glommen, Shirley Ann Solem and Jovonne Marie Moen.
She was preceded by a son, Douglas; a son-in-law, Blake Sobolik; brothers-in-law, Harry Glommen, Loren Solem and Forest Ranum.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at 11 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Visitation was held at the church for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Frank Johnson, presided; Renee Wahl, organist. Casket bearers were Bev’s grandchildren. Honorary casket bearers were great grandchildren.
