Daniel W. Homstad, 51, Apple Valley, Minn., ended his life after a prolonged battle with depression on May 28, 2019.
Dan was a former Hennepin County public defender and prosecutor, before opening his own law firm, Dan Homstad Defense, in Bloomington. Dan described himself as an attorney, dad, husband, Civil War student, baseball enthusiast, Vikings fan, author and cat aficionado.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Heidi Larson; children, Sean and Jordan Homstad; mother, Candice Homstad; father, Daniel F. (Shari) Homstad; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Woods; mother-in-law, Nancy Larson Will, also by other relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Chris, and father-in-law, Ronald Larson.
A gathering of family and friends was held on Monday, June 3, from 4-8 p.m. at White Funeral Home, Apple Valley. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, at Grace Lutheran Church, Apple Valley, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Private interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated for suicide awareness.
