LuVerne Kain, 86

LuVerne Kain, 86, of Hallock, Minn., passed  away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center on Sunday, July 26, 2020.
LuVerne Patrick Kain was born Sept. 16, 1933, to Walter and Margaret (Houle) Kain. He grew up in Neche, N.D., and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church there.
In 1951 he graduated from Neche High School and began farming in Pembina County.
In 1990 he was united in marriage to Arlene Thorsteinson at Maria Lutheran Church in Kennedy.
The couple enjoyed their trips to the West Coast, dancing and visiting family and friends. LuVerne enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was a member of Maria Lutheran Church and the Hallock Eagles. LuVerne retired from farming in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; step-children, Brent (Barb) Thorsteinson, Kennedy, Cheryl (Ross) Lambert, Cass Lake, Minn., and Kari (Troy) Haukos, Bagley; step-son-in-law, Greg Mitziga, Kennedy; grandchildren, Jacey Mitziga, Austin Lambert, Nathan Scheving, Daphnie Gage, Deryk Weleski, Devyn Weleski, Peyton Weleski, Carson Thorsteinson and Billy Thorsteinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jeffery and Jerry; his first wife, Kaye Grube; a brother, Bernard (Grace) Kain; and step-daughter, Tammy Mitziga.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. in Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy. Interment was in Union Cemetery, rural Neche. Visitation was held at the church for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Kathy Levenhagen, presided. Special music was provided by Curtis Stegman. LuVerne’s grandchildren were honorary pall bearers. CDC guidelines were followed.
