Ebba Sandberg, 101
Ebba Sandberg, 101, of Hallock, Minn., passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020.
Ebba Vendella Sandberg was born March 3, 1919 on the family farm near Kennedy, Minn., to Victor and Emma (Anderson) Sandberg. She grew up near Kennedy and attended Kennedy Public School, graduating in 1936. Ebba received her teaching degree from Moorhead State Teachers College. She taught for a short time in several rural schools before continuing her education at the University of Minnesota. During her first year she took a position through the U.S. Army and taught in Japan for six years. She later sailed to Europe to teach in southern Germany for two years. Ebba returned to New York and attend Columbia University, where she received her Master’s Degree. Ebba taught in Scarsdale, N.Y., for nearly 40 years. In retirement she traveled extensively, visiting countries in Europe, Africa, the Far East and South America. Ebba returned to Kittson County in July of 2007.
Ebba leaves behind a sister, Marie Erlandson, Hallock; a niece Sandy Parent, Kennedy; nephews, Eddie Erlandson, Elko, Nev., and Randy Erlandson, Dickenson, N.D.; grand nephews, Nick and Tim Erlandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Sandberg and two infant brothers.
Graveside services for Ebba will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020 at 10 a.m. in the West Emmaus Cemetery, rural Kennedy. Pastor Kathy Levenhagen, presiding. There will be a family visitation at Austin Funeral Chapel in Hallock beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14.
