Kennedy City Council sets sanitation services rates, hires PT maintenance worker
By Margie Holmgren
The Kennedy City Council set fees for 2023 sanitation services. The council voted to go with Northern Sanitation, Stephen, Minn., for garbage services at their November meeting.
The council voted to bill the homes and businesses that do not use tipper carts or dumpsters, $13 per month. Currently 71 homes and businesses use garbage bags. Each home or business will receive 52 stickers to label their plain garbage bags. These stickers are to be used on one 16-gallon bag. Larger bags will require two stickers. If more stickers are needed, they will be available for sale at the city office and other locations to be announced at a later date. Additional stickers will cost $1.02 plus tax.
Households with tipper carts will be able to get carts provided by Northern Sanitation. Pickup rates will vary depending on the size of the cart. A 48-gallon cart household will be billed by the city at a rate of $28 per month; 64-gallon carts at $32 per month and 96-gallon tipper carts at $40 per month.
Commercial fees were approved at the same rates except for those with dumpsters will be billed $8.25 per yard per month.
All rates are before taxes are added.
The city estimates they will receive about $2,300 in yearly revenue from the sanitation service agreement.
Current tipper cart customers will have their carts picked up by Anderson Sanitation and will receive a return deposit for the usage of their carts from them. Details on how this will be handled had not been determined at this time.
