Fifth graders raise items, money for Perry’s Paws

By Bailey Modlin, teacher
The Kittson Central fifth grade class was tasked with choosing a service project that they would like to complete.
At the beginning of the school year, we discussed what community service is and why it is important. Then, we discussed needs that our communities have and how we could support them. Finally, students voted on a project they would like to complete. This year’s fifth grade class decided to do a donation drive for Perry’s Paws, a cat and kitten rescue located in Kennedy.
From Nov. 3-7, the fifth grade students collected items that would be useful for Perry’s Paws. The items the class selected to collect were cat toys, cat/kitten food, cat litter, towels, blankets and loose change. We were able to collect a large amount of items and cash to donate to the Perry’s Paws organization. On Wednesday, Nov. 12, Gina Bowles and Robin McEnelly came to the school and the students were able to help load up the items. It was exciting to see how their hard work paid off and to hear from the people who help run the organization.
The fifth grade class said the community helped to make this project a success! We couldn’t have done it without your generosity and support.
