Donald Hostrup, 72
Donald “Don / Donnie” Lee Hostrup, 72, of Lancaster, Minn., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025.
Don was born in Hallock, Minn., and spent his life rooted in the values of hard work, family and friendship. He attended and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1971. Don married the love of his life, Janelle Hostrup, (Olson) on July 1, 1978.
A lifelong farmer, Don dedicated himself to running his own farm and working for other farmers in the area. His skills extended beyond the fields—he was a talented welder and worked in plumbing and heating. For many years, he also drove a school bus, ensuring children in his community traveled safely.
Don’s passions were simple yet profound: hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards and spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. He was always ready to help, and his generosity touched countless lives. Known for his strength and determination, Don had a knack for tightening bolts so well that loosening them became a challenge.
His witty one-liners also kept you on your toes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janelle Hostrup; his children, Jeremy (Jenifer) Hostrup, Daniel (Toni) Hostrup, and Jennifer (Nate) Breyette; his sisters, JoAnn Winger and Susan Howell; and grandchildren, Bailie, Bryson and Brylie Hostrup.
Don was a good friend to everyone he met, and his legacy of kindness and hard work will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A funeral service for Don was held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Lancaster Covenant Church. Visitation was held in the church for one hour before the service.
