Dorothy Muir, 89
Dorothy Jean Muir, 89, of Hallock, Minn., passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, at the Kittson Healthcare Center, surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born on July 7, 1936, in Hallock, to Philip and Marjorie (Gillie) O’Hearn. She attended Moen School through the eighth grade before transferring to Hallock High School, where she graduated in 1954. Dorothy went on to attend Moorhead State University for one year, then returned to Hallock and began working at Northwestern State Bank.
She married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Muir, on Feb. 18, 1957. Together they raised four children and carried on the Muir Farm legacy. Dorothy and Bob were both very proud of becoming a Minnesota Century Farm in 1996. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family meant everything to her.
Dorothy was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and its Ladies Guild. She managed the 4-H Club food booth at the fair for four years and was very involved in the Two River 4-H Club. She was also a member of the Two River Homemakers Club and served on the Hallock Senior Center Board.
Bob and Dorothy spent many years traveling the United States and wintering in Alamo Palms, Texas, enjoying the warmer weather. She loved watching her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, attending family gatherings, fishing, spending time at the lake with Bob, knitting and playing cards.
Dorothy was a generous and thoughtful person in every sense of the word. She was always thinking of others – remembering birthdays, checking in with a phone call, sending a card and doing the little things that made people feel loved and cared for. Her kindness was quiet but constant and will always be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Dorothy will be greatly missed and remembered by her children, Kathy (Jim) Larson, Philip (Lori) Muir, Nola (Bobby) Lindegard, and Joel (Diane) Muir; and her grandchildren, Amy (Justin) Marty, Marcy (Tony) Gustafson, Becky Boutin, Ben (Staci) Boutin, Jami (Robert) Carr, Andrew (Leah) Muir, Katie (Austin) Cosley, Dawn (Jesse) Lindegard, Joni (Jay) Friedt, Scott (Taylor) Lindegard, Craig (Camille) Lindegard, and Madison (Jake) Larson; her 20 great-grandchildren, with her 21st great-grandchild expected in June. In addition, Dorothy is survived by her sister, Betty Staveteig, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2007; her parents; her siblings, Millie (Jim) Swanson, Boyd, Forrest, Dale and Kenneth (Jane) O’Hearn; her brother-in-law, George Staveteig; her nephew, Dale Staveteig; her niece, Marilyn (Chris) Wansbut-ter; her son-in-law, Phillip Boutin; and her daughters-in-law, Suzette and Patricia Muir.
The family would like to thank the Rivers Edge Assisted Living “family” for the past five years and the Kittson Healthcare Center for the wonderful care they provided during her final days.
