Layne D. Turner, 73

Layne D. Turner, 73, of Marshall, Minn., passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at Prairie Home Hospice Mclaughlin House, Marshall. A private service will be held at a later date.
Layne was born June 24, 1952, son of Burton and Dorothy (Rustad) Turner in Hallock, Minn. He attended and graduated Humboldt High School and then graduated from Moorhead Technical Institute. He married Deborah (Wallen) Christensen on May 3, 1997, in Marshall at Wesley United Methodist Church. They shared over 28 wonderful years of marriage.
When Layne first moved to Marshall, he spent a few years as chef at Toni’s Depot until the opportunity came along to purchase Marshall Lanes Bowling. He thoroughly enjoyed being able to mix business with the opportunity of doing one of his favorite hobbies, bowling. His career then turned to doing something that came naturally as a personal art talent – painting. Along with his private painting business, he was employed at Southwest Minnesota State University as “The Painter.”
Layne’s passions were his grandchildren, spending time with Deb tending their flower and vegetable gardens, creating beautiful paintings and pencil drawings, woodworking, trying new recipes and cheering on the MN Wild.
Layne (Papa) is survived by: his wife, Deborah; daughter, Danica Paurus; step-children Sara (Dan) Jones and Shane Christensen; grandchildren Olivia, Gabriel, Dylan and Chloe; sister, Leslie Chapman; brother, Daniel (Linda) Turner; mother-in-law, Delores Wallen; brother-in-law, Douglas (Linda) Wallen; sister-in-law, Sandra (Scott) Johnson; several nieces, nephews and special companion Macey.
Layne was preceded in death by: his parents, Burton and Dorothy; brother, James; brother-in-law, Jerry Chapman; father-in-law, Merlyn Wallen.
Memorials are preferred to Prairie Home Hospice of Marshall or the ALS Society.
