Micheal Klegstad, 73

Micheal Levern Klegstad, 73, Hallock, Minn., passed away peacefully Monday, March 9, 2026, at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.
Mike was born June 4, 1952, to Catherine and Levern (Ernie) Klegstad and grew up in Hallock. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where he served as a sacristan and usher. He attended and graduated from Hallock High School in 1970 and continued his education by specializing in drafting at Northland Technical College in Thief River Falls, Minn.
As a young man, Mike married Michelle Lysfjord and together they had three daughters, Heather, Heidi and Hayley. They made their home in Hallock, where Mike became a local businessman. He owned and operated Uptown Standard and later worked for Crane Johnson Lumber company. He and Michelle divorced in the 1980s.
Mike relocated to White Bear Lake, Minn., where he met and married Allison Amey in 1989. They had a daughter, Keri, and two sons, Tommy and Billy. His love of Hallock called him home – “My place is in Hallock” – and he returned north to manage Crane Johnson Lumber, which he later purchased and renamed KTB Lumber. Always a hometown supporter, he lived by his motto: “If Hallock doesn’t have it, I don’t need it.” He and Allison later divorced.
Mike had multiple interests, including bowling, curling, cooking, remodeling his home, and driving and showing his prized ’55 Buick with the Valley Cruiser Club. He was always willing to help call bingo, whether it was at the fair, the Eagles or at a Lions Club benefit. Every November meant hunting with the guys of Custom Border Camp and summer meant mowing and helping with hunting shack repairs. Mike liked to stay busy!
Mike is survived by: four daughters: Heather (Karl) Johnson, Heidi (Todd) Carlson, Hayley (Zach Zacharison) Klegstad, and Keri (Brian Ulmer) Klegstad; two sons: Thomas (Kelly) Klegstad, and Billy (Gabby Schmiedeberg) Klegstad; grandchildren: Alex Pfeffer, Anthony Kulp, Rachel (Tor) Finseth, Brett Johnson, Greg Johnson, Grant (Karley) Stewart, Maddie (Brandal) Bossman, Cooper and Tucker Howland, Aurora and Bjorn Klegstad, and Ivy and Henry Klegstad; great-grandchildren: Karsen Stewart and Charli Bossman; father: Ernie Klegstad; siblings: Merietta (Denny) Johnson, Tom (Sharlene) Klegstad, Yvonne (Tom) Lykken, Cathy Peterson, Robert (Kim) Klegstad, Deb Meseck, and Keith (Joelle) Klegstad; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
