Reviving Waters of the Dancing Sky Scenic Byway

The Northwest Regional Development Commission is working with others to revive the Waters of the Dancing Sky Scenic Byway corridor.
This region was created around 1998 and focuses on U.S. Highway 11 from International Falls to Karlstad. In 2002, the last section from Karlstad, up Highway 59 to Highway 175, and to the North Dakota border was added.
Tim Finseth, transportation director of the RDC in Warren, along with Darla Waldnder of the RDC executive director, and Taylor VanBuskirk, mobility manager, visited with people in Hallock on Wednseday, June 24.
The majority of the conversation was to update the list for Kittson County. In the original document Finseth handed out, both Kittson and Roseau counties have very sparse lists of roadside attractions and things to do. This corridor spans 10 miles north and south of the main route.
“If you look, you’ll see that Koochiching and Lake of the Woods counties are full of sites, and Roseau and Kittson counties really got left out,” Finseth said. “We don’t know why that is. … I think those people on the committee just didn’t do their due diligence. So we want you to tell us other attractions in Kittson County that we need to have in this plan.”
