Monica Johnson, 64

Monica Johnson, 64, of Lake Bronson, Minn., passed away on Dec. 24, 2018, after an incredible fight against cancer.
Monica Ann Pietruszewski was born in Greenbush, Minn., on Sept. 9, 1954, the daughter of Sylvester and Esther (Snare) Pietruszewski. She grew up in Grafton and later moved with her family to Donaldson, Minn.
On Jan. 15, 1972, she married Frederick Johnson at Lake Bronson. In her early years, Monica worked at the Nordic Korner in Donaldson, Roger Bogestad and Larry Bogestad farms. She also worked at Cenex in Lake Bronson, for several years. Monica’s favorite past time was reading and watching old movies and TV shows. In her earlier years, she enjoyed baking for her family, gardening, flowers and having everyone come home for deer hunting. She was so proud of her four daughters and 11 grandchildren.
Family members include her daughters, Dr. Kim (Dr. Jamie) Englund, Moorhead, Minn.; Michelle (Lonnie) Olderbak, Grand Forks, N.D.; Jennifer Johnson (Nick Larson), West Fargo, N.D., and Tracy (Josh) Heath, West Fargo, N.D.; 11 grandchildren, Cody, Ty, and Kylie Englund; Trevor and Tanner Olderbak; Abbey and Jacob Stumphf, Owen Larson, and Tason, Tommy and Drew Heath. Other survivors include her sister, Cathy (Neil) Lundy, Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Mike (Kim) Pietruszewski, Farmington, Minn., and Jon (Christine) Pietruszewski, Kennedy, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005, her mother in November 2017, her father in 1993, and a sister-in-law, Patricia, in 1973.
One thing we want everyone to know about our mom and remember is her strong will. She overcame so many medical setbacks, kept fighting and still maintained her sense of humor. We would like to thank Dr. Dentchev and the incredible nurses and staff at the Altru Cancer Center, for their excellent care, compassion, and support over the years. She did not mind going in for chemo because she could visit with all the wonderful people there.
We’d also like to thank the wonderful staff at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks for making her last few days as comfortable as possible.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at 1 p.m. in Austin Funeral Chapel, Hallock. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson, Minn. Visitation was held for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Austin Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements. www.austinfuneral chapel.com
