Marlys Thorson, 94

Marlys Thorson, 94, of Lancaster, Minn., passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center on Dec. 10, 2020.
She was born Marlys Melvin in Sidney, Mont., on March 10, 1926, to John and Isolde (Meril) Melvin.  Marlys was a graduate of Westby High School in Westby, Mont., and went on to attend teachers college in Havre, Mont. Marlys taught country school in the Neche, N.D., area. She married Roy Bylund and they lived in Lancaster.  Together they ran a trucking company. Marlys and Roy had four children: John, Roy, Eloise and Roxanne. Marlys went back to school at Moorhead State Teachers College and earned her elementary and special education degrees.  She then took a job in Glasgow, Mont., where her brother, Mason, had previously served as sheriff. She felt at home on the barren landscape. Marlys met and married Al Thorson from Glasgow. When Al passed away Marly’s daughters convinced her to move back to Minnesota.
Marlys is survived by: her daughter, Eloise Brown of Lancaster.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husbands, Roy and Al; infant sons, John and Roy; a daughter, Roxanne Reaume, who died on March 12, 2020; a son-in-law, Glenn Browne  who died on July 31, 2020; a brother, Mason Melvin; and a sister, Lorna Hultgren.
