KCC volleyball team defeats Warroad
By Coach Tina Turn
KCC 3 – Warroad 1
On Thursday, Sept. 11, the Bearcats embarked on one of their longest regular-season trips, traveling to Warroad to take on the Warriors.
In the opening set, the Bearcats made a statement on the first play with a “Happy Birthday” kill, which is a terminating play off of an opponent’s overpass. Camryn Whitlock knocked over a couple of aces, and both Afton Lindgren and Brynn Hennen went on serving runs that kept the Warriors out of system. Kaydence White dominated at the net with 10 kills in the first set win 25-11.
The Bearcats only had 5 errors in the first set while in the second set, they had 15 errors. It’s very hard to win a set with that many errors, and this is evidenced by their 23-25 loss. Despite 5 ace serves in the set, KCC had too many communication and hitting errors, and they gave the Warriors just enough free points to come out on top.
In the third set, KCC regrouped and played with precision, cutting down on errors and generating nearly every point through sharp offense and aggressive serving. Hennen ignited the run with 12 straight serves, propelling the Bearcats to an early 12-1 advantage. Backed by 13 kills, the offense surged, and KCC cruised to a commanding 25-13 victory.
KCC served 100% in set four. Clean play all the way around offensively, defensively, and at the serving line made for a solid 25-10 win. Warnke put an exclamation mark on the game by ending the night with an ace serve.
Aside from a stumble in the second set, the Bearcats delivered a strong overall performance. Serving was much sharper than Tuesday night, as the team not only surpassed its goal but also racked up 18 aces. Offensively, KCC spread the attack across the net, and steady passing—just shy of goal—kept the offense in rhythm. Earning a road win over a AA opponent is always valuable, and while the Bearcats no doubt wanted to finish in three, they showed resilience in bouncing back after the second-set setback. With the victory over Warroad, KCC improves its season record to 7-3.
