Bearcats defeat Ponies in sweep at Warren

By Coach Tina Turn
In their final Northern Lights Conference match of the season, the KCC Bearcats traveled south to Warren on Friday, Oct. 10, to face the Ponies. The Bearcats swept the Ponies 3-0 in their first meeting in September and were determined to repeat that performance.
Set one was nearly flawless. With a stellar 96% serving rate and sharp, controlled swings on offense, the Bearcats gave away only 2 points—1 on a missed serve and 1 on a hitting error. They played well from start to finish, rolling to a 25-9 victory.
The second set opened with a moment of history. Senior middle hitter Kaydence White pounded down a kill to the cheers of teammates and fans alike—a swing that made her KCC’s new career kills leader, surpassing Marlee Turn’s previous record of 1,615. Despite some struggles from the service line, where the Bearcats missed 5 serves, their steady offense carried them to a 25-14 win.
The Ponies showed more fight in the third set, keeping things close through the early points. But once KCC hit the 15-point mark, the Bearcats surged ahead and never looked back. Fifteen kills spread among three hitters kept the Ponies’ defense on its heels, sealing the sweep with a 25-15 finish.
Although serving remains slightly below goal, the Bearcats continue to meet or exceed expectations in every other statistical category—a strong sign as they prepare for their final regular-season match against the Lake of the Woods Bears on Monday, Oct. 13. The win over Warren moves KCC’s season record to 18-9. Also on Friday, the Bearcats secured their spot as Northern Lights Conference Champions for the third season in a row.
