Water project moving toward bidding process

The Kennedy City Council approved final plans and specs for the city’s water improvement project, as well as advertising for bids, during the Wednesday, Jan. 14 regular meeting.
“I know this is at breakneck speed and probably not the amount of time you would want to look through a set of plans, but we have a very strict deadline that we need to hit to keep this moving forward,” said Cade Krueger, project engineer at Bollig Engineers.
About three moths ago, the city of Kennedy switched to Bollig Engineering to help them get their water project taken care of. It’s been a long journey and this is engineering firm No. 3. Despite that, the city’s project is finally on track. Krueger said the project plans are already submitted for review by Rural Development. This is a critical step before the city can officially put the project out for bids.
The final plans incorporate a new pump station along with adjusted piping. The old pump station will be left in place for now and eventually removed with future funding. Bollig proposed a new pump house and storage reservoir on the hill to the east of the current pump house. The existing water main will be used in this project.
