Betty J. Anderson, 93, of Hallock, Minn., passed away at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021.
Betty Jane Almquist was born Nov. 27, 1927, in Verona, Mo., to Johannes and Ida (Johnson) Almquist. Betty moved as a child to Minneapolis, Minn., and grew up there. She was a 1945 graduate of Edison High School. After completing her education, she began working as a switchboard operator at Gambles headquarters in Minneapolis.
On Aug. 27, 1955, she was united in marriage to Carrol Anderson in Minneapolis. The couple settled in Rock Island, Ill., for a short time before moving to Jamestown, N.D. In 1960, they moved to Lancaster, Minn., where Carrol became the pastor of Sion Lutheran Church. He served at Sion for 22 years before accepting a position in Strandburg, S.D., in 1983. After Carrol’s passing in 2001, Betty moved to Hallock. Betty enjoyed reading, puzzles and crossword puzzles.
Family members include her daughters, Deborah (Elroy) Bergh, Hallock, and Beth Anderson, Ramsey, Minn.; three grandchildren, Kirsten, Kyle and Tyler; and two great-grandchildren, Andriel and Arlo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carrol; a grandson, Michael; three sisters, Amy, Mabel and Doris; and a brother, Eugene.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Rev. Daniel Ostercamp, presiding. Casket bearers will be Kirsten Bergh, Kyle Bergh, Tyler Bergh, Kayla Johnson, Cristian Johnson and Annie Hoven. Visitation was held on Sunday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. in Austin Funeral Chapel, Hallock.
