LB Council approves pay range for hiring new clerk

By Anna Jauhola
As the city of Lake Bronson continues to look for a new clerk, the council recently set the pay range for the position and a deadline for applications.
During the regular meeting on Monday, May 18, the council discussed and approved a pay range of $20 to $25 per hour, depending on experience. The last day applications will be taken is on Monday, June 15. Clerk Sandy Lund put in her official resignation as clerk earlier this year, with the caveat that she’ll stay to train the new clerk.
“A lot of these people are just waiting on when’s the deadline,” said Mayor Bobby Schmiedeberg. “So, you put a deadline in there, applications might be rolling in.”
The council had appointed Tatum Carlson and Skip Strom as councilors on the hiring committee. However, with such a small town, if there is any conflict of interest with people who apply, other councilors will have to step in as alternates.
The council also discussed the pay range for the new clerk, deciding on the $20 to $25 per hour.
“We an’t go beyond what we’re budgeted to pay,” said Councilor Brian Undeberg.
“Kids are getting paid $18 an hour to work. It should probably be $20 to $25,” Schmiedeberg said.
“I don’t think you’re going to find anybody that’s going to take a job under $20 (an hour) right now,” said Councilor Pattijo Shablow.
The council approved the pay range and briefly discussed the hiring clerk process, but tabled approving any of that process until the June meeting.
